How to Cut a Watermelon (For a crowd!)

Hey! YOU. Yes, you! You've probably been cutting watermelon wrong for your whole life and didn't even know it.

So, you may not know it. But... I'm a room mom. That's right! I said it. I spend my fair share of time up at my daughter's school. Whether it's helping her teacher out, helping the school out, or planning and preparing things that go on behind the scenes. There's a wonderful group of us that have all become a lot closer this year and hopefully even more in the next to come!

Every year we have the dreaded end-of-the-year party. It's a pretty big deal. I mean... it's hot in Texas about this time of year. And the one fruit we like to serve up is watermelon. It's fresh, cold, and hydrating. Plus... almost every kid likes it. Win. Win.

Last year we had a pool party and I had seen this way a few years back on how to cut watermelon up to make it easy for kids and large groups. You know... without having watermelon juice dripping all over you and everything else.

This way of cutting your watermelon solves all those sorts of problems and it's easy peasy. I promise. All my room mom buddies and parents were so delighted with how I cut the watermelon that I was selected again this year to do the watermelon cutting for our party. So I thought... if it was that popular among them that I may as well share the knowledge here too!

As you can see, the watermelon is cut into long rectangles, giving every piece a gripping piece of rind while a perfectly bitable piece of juicy watermelon is free for scarfing. No face full of sticky watermelon juice here. Just good clean nom-able bites that are perfect for summer parties and BBQs alike!
