French Bread

I’ve been doing a lot of baking lately. Especially now that I got ALL NEW appliances in my kitchen finally! I’ve been waiting to do it for years and years now and I finally was able to do so. Between that, limiting trips to the store, and having my hands on a handy-dandy bread maker, I’ve been a bread making fool!

This French Bread is simple. It’s as standard as bread comes and is made with just a handful of pantry staple ingredients. Flour, oil, salt, sugar, yeast, that’s pretty much all there is to it. I have to say, even if you don’t have a bread machine, this bread is still pretty easy to make and will easily rival any fresh bakery bread.

I like to use this bread to make giant sub sandwiches with, but it would also be good paired with a soup or stew. Or, you know, just eaten straight up with some garlic butter. No judgement here. It’s for sure light and fluffy though, and if you’re not careful it will disappear quickly!

Let’s face it, there’s nothing that rivals the smell of fresh baked bread straight from the oven.

Delicious and easy to make homemade from scratch french bread! Great for giant sub sandnwiches or paired with a stew.

Prep Time: 2 Hours & 30 Minutes • Cook Time: 25 Minutes

Servings: 8 • Serving Size: 1/8th • Calories: 259 • Fat: 6 g • Saturated Fat: 0 g • Carb: 45 g • Fiber: 2 g • Protein: 6 g • Sugar: 3 g • Sodium: 148 mg

Ingredients:
• 11.5 Fl. Oz. Hot Water
• 3 Tbsp. Vegetable Oil
• 2 Tsp. Salt
• 2 Tbsp. Sugar
• 3 1/2 C (490 G.) Flour
• 1 Tsp. Active Dry Yeast

Directions:
Bread Machine: Place the ingredients for the dough into a bread machine in the order listed and set it to the 'dough cycle' setting.

No Bread Machine: If you do not have a bread machine, you can combine the hot water and yeast into a bowl and allow the yeast to activate and foam up. Once the yeast is active you can combine the remaining ingredients in the bowl of a stand mixer with the hook attachment or knead by hand. Spray a large bowl with non-stick cooking spray and place dough inside. Cover with plastic wrap and allow it to sit for an hour until doubled in size.

Once the dough cycle has ended or the dough has risen for its first time, remove the dough to a lightly floured surface and pat with your hands into a roughly 9x13'“ rectangle.

Prepare a baking sheet with a silicone baking sheet or parchment paper; set aside.

Roll the dough up starting from the long edge, pressing out any air bubbles or seams with the heel of your hand, and pinch the edge to seal.

Place the dough onto the prepared baking sheet and give a few slashes across the top with a sharpened knife.

Cover lightly with a tea towel and set in a warm place to rise for about an hour or until it has doubled in size.

Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F.

Once the dough has risen, place in the oven to bake for about 25-30 minutes or until golden brown and baked through.

Remove from the oven when done and allow to cool for at least 15 minutes before cutting and serving as desired!
